Ioannis Tomkos

Dr. Ioannis Tomkos is Professor of Optical Communications at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, Greece. Currently his research is focusing on the use of optical communications systems for 5G/6G and datacenter networks.

Ioannis has held many academic and industry positions in various countries around the world (e.g. USA, Spain, Cyprus, Italy and Greece). His research group has been involved in over 25 EU-funded research projects with a consortium-wide leading role (serving as Technical Manager of 10 major EU projects).

In 2018, Dr. Tomkos was elected a Fellow of IEEE “for contributions in Dynamic Optical Networks”. He is also a Fellow of the IET (2010) and a Fellow of the “Optical Society” (2012).

Together with his colleagues and students he has co-authored over 650 peer-reviewed archival articles, including over 150 Journal/Magazine/Book publications.  He serves as Program Advisor for the 5G Techritory event.

His published work has received over 10,000 citations (h-factor=47).
